Robin van Persie: Could leave Manchester United this summer
Robin van Persie is likely to leave Manchester United this summer and could join Inter Milan, according to Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph.
Van Persie has struggled with injuries this season and has failed to replicate the form that saw him fire the club to the title in his first season at Olf Trafford.
With a number of newspapers suggesting United are willing to let Van Persie go, with Uruguay front man Edison Cavani among those being lined up to replace him, Law suggested the time may be right for a parting of the ways.
"Interestingly, (Inter boss) Roberto Mancini tried to take him to Manchester City before United came in so that looks a sensible link," he told the Sunday Supplement.
"It does seem like it’s coming to an end. He's got a year left on his contract after this one anyway so they’ll probably have to pay up the remaining year but it will certainly suit Manchester United to move him on and look elsewhere.
"Whether it suits him with another year left on a big contract that’s another thing.
The Dutchman joined United ahead of the 2012-13 season, and Law believes that ultimately both parties have got what they were after from the deal.
"The more you look at the Van Persie move it looks as though from United and Ferguson’s point of view they thought that he could win them the title that year," he explained.
"For him as well he had it in the back of his mind that he had one shot at the title with his injury record and his age and that was it. They both got what they wanted out of it."
