Ander Herrera: Celebrates scoring with Ashley Young
Ander Herrera scored twice as Manchester United saw off Aston Villa and moved above rivals Manchester City into third place with a 3-1 win at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Wayne Rooney had a strong penalty appeal waved away early on, before Marcos Rojo had a long-range effort saved, but Ander Herrera’s low finish gave the hosts a first-half lead after a dominant opening 45 minutes.
Ashley Young went close as Louis van Gaal’s men looked to kill the game off, and Rooney’s superb strike made it 2-0 before Christian Benteke pulled one back within a minute, and Herrera grabbed his second of the match to seal victory in stoppage time.
It’s a sixth Premier League victory in succession for United, who look odds-on to secure a top-four finish at the end of the season and go above Manuel Pellegrini’s City, who take on Crystal Palace on Monday Night Football.
