Premier League: Manchester City's David Silva out for up to a month

http://ift.tt/1h8Rvug

Friday 31st October 2014 12:54

David Silva will miss this weekend’s Manchester derby after being ruled out for three to four weeks through injury.

The skilful Manchester City midfielder hurt his knee during Wednesday’s Capital One Cup defeat at home to Newcastle.

Silva was injured after just nine minutes against Newcastle after tangling with Ryan Taylor.

City tweeted the news of Silva’s absence: "Manuel Pellegrini confirms he will miss Sunday's game. Will be out for 3-4 weeks.”

And manager Pellegrini, speaking at Friday's pre-derby press conference, said: “He has a problem with a ligament and will be out for around three weeks.

“He’s a very important player but we have a squad and have to replace him.”

The City boss is also keeping an eye on Yaya Toure but Pellegrini believes the Ivory Coast star will be fit to face United at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.

The Chilean added: “Yaya has a small problem but should play.”

City go into Sunday’s clash with neighbours United at the Etihad Stadium on the back of two successive defeats.

Manchester United in talks with AC Milan over January friendly

Filippo Inzaghi: AC Milan coach could be taking on Louis van Gaal in January

Filippo Inzaghi: AC Milan coach could be taking on Louis van Gaal in January

Manchester United are in talks with AC Milan about playing a friendly in the new year.

Neither club is in the Champions League nor Europa League this season so they are discussing playing a lucrative one-off game, almost certainly in the Middle East.

AC Milan's director Umberto Gandini confirmed a friendly with United was on the agenda.

Gandini said: "This is something we have been talking about for a few weeks and we have a committed interest to do something together.

"It's just a question to find the right date and then to find the right place."

One possible date would be around Wednesday January 28, which does not clash with any European matches, and Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi does not have any Italian Cup games to contend with.

There are Capital One Cup semi-finals taking place but that would not impact on United playing a friendly.

In 2008 a full-strength United squad played a testimonial game in Riyahd, Saudi Arabia, in front of sell-out 69,000 crowd on a Monday night and then had a spell at a warm-weather training camp before returning for an FA Cup match.

Van Gaal said earlier this month that he wanted his team to play top teams in midweek and had spoken about it to United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and managing director Richard Arnold.

Van Gaal said: "I like to play midweek games against high-level opponents."

Both United and Milan could expect to earn more than £1million from the match.

United expect a drop in income of up to £48million as a result of failing to qualify for the Champions League under David Moyes.

Reeece James: Being chased by host of clubs on loan.

Reeece James: Being chased by host of clubs on loan.

A host of clubs are lining up moves to sign Manchester United starlet Reece James on loan, Sky Sports understands.

United are believed to be willing to loan out highly-rated defender James so that he can get some valuable first-team action under his belt.

James impressed for United during their pre-season tour of the United States, scoring twice in the 7-0 win over LA Galaxy, and the left-back is highly-regarded within the corridors of power at Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old, who joined United in the summer of 2012, made his first-team debut earlier this season in the Capital One Cup, but United feel he would be best served going out on loan to continue his development.

The news has alerted a number of Championship clubs who are all weighing up a moves for the former Blackburn and Preston youngster.

James' suitors are expected to watch the full-back in action next week when he turns out for United's under 21s against Leicester as United consider where they feel James would be best suited to move to.

Transfer news: PSG striker Edinson Cavani has not thought of move to Premier League

Edinson Cavani: Happy to stay in France

Edinson Cavani: Happy to stay in France

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani insisted that a move to the Premier League has never crossed his mind.

The Uruguayan hitman was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal in the summer, with the latter reportedly still monitoring the 27-year-old’s progress.

However, the in-form hit-man has reiterated his desire to stay in the French capital, and has no desire to seek a move across the channel.

"I feel fine at PSG,” Cavani told Le Parisien.

"The fans and everyone at the club makes me feel at home. In football, money is not the only motivation.

"Did I think to join England last summer? I didn’t think me or the chairman ever said any word that could make people think that. That is all football rumours.

"My 5 years contract at PSG? I don’t know what will happen, no one knows.

"I am under contract and the most important is the fact I am here now and we try to win titles with PSG.”

Cavani has excelled in the absence of the mercurial Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and while both appear eager to be the Parisiens’ main focal point of the attack, Cavani is adamant the pair get along just fine.

"My relationship with Zlatan? I can’t understand why there are so many questions about that," Cavani added.

"We have normal team-mate relationship. To me any team-mate is the same.

"There is no problem with Ibra. We are complementary. I can’t see why we could not play together in the team."

James Wilson: The teenager has made three appearances so far this season

Manchester United's young striker James Wilson has admitted it is an important time for him to prove himself to manager Louis van Gaal.

The youngster is keen to impress following the departure of Danny Welbeck to Arsenal and Javier Hernandez going on loan to Real Madrid.

Wilson came on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday and is battling for a starting place with Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao.

The 18-year-old said: "It’s an important time for me.

"Obviously with those two going - Chicha on loan and Danny getting a move to Arsenal - it’s given me a great opportunity.

"It’s going to be really important for me to get the minutes on the pitch.

"Obviously with the competition in training and even in the games as well, if I can just get a few minutes here and there, then hopefully I can get my chance further down the line.”

Wilson, who marked his debut last season with two goals against Hull City, said he has no issues with playing for the Under-21s as well.

He added: “It’s very, very important because if I’m not getting the minutes on the pitch for the first team, then I’ll be happy to play for the Under-21s and get my match fitness in.

“You can simulate a game in training but it’s never going to be the same as a 90-minute game.

“So it will be good to get minutes on the pitch for the Under-21s as well.”

Wilson could be included in Manchester United's squad for this Sunday's derby trip to Manchester City, live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 12.30pm.

Transfer news: Wolfsburg reluctant to part with Switzerland star Ricardo Rodriguez

http://ift.tt/1h8Rvug

Wednesday 29th October 2014 11:18

Ricardo Rodriguez: Under contract until 2016

Ricardo Rodriguez: Under contract until 2016

Wolfsburg have no intention of offloading Ricardo Rodriguez amid reports of interest from the Premier League.

The Switzerland international has been in Germany since 2012 and has seen his consistency in the Bundesliga draw admiring glances from afar.

The likes of Manchester United and Chelsea, along with Bayern Munich, are all said to be closely monitoring the 22-year-old’s situation.

With Rodriguez’s contract due to expire in 2016, it has been suggested that interest will be stepped up in January and again next summer.

Wolfsburg would have to consider any approaches, rather than run the risk of losing the left-back for nothing as a free agent, but general manager Klaus Allofs says there is no chance of a sale being sanctioned any time soon – with extension talks being planned.

He told SPORT1 media: “Ricardo Rodriguez is under contract until June 2016.

“It doesn’t matter if we aren’t able to agree a new deal with him, we will not agree to an early departure.

“Anyway, I am confident that we will be able to sign a new deal with Ricardo Rodriguez.”
