Alessio Cerci: Linked with moves to Arsenal and Man United

Alessio Cerci: Linked with moves to Arsenal and Man United

Torino insist they have no intention of selling in-demand duo Alessio Cerci or Matteo Darmian this summer.

Italian winger Cerci has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League after making a huge impact at Torino last season, where he scored 13 goals and set up 12 more to help the Granata finish seventh in Serie A,

The 26-year-old, who was a member of Italy's World Cup squad in Brazil, is a reported target of Manchester United and Arsenal.

"I have not spoken to Cerci yet," Torino president Urbano Cairo said to Italian newspaper La Stampa. "Hence, I don't know what his wish is.

"But one thing is certain, I have not received any offers so far. I will do everything I can to keep him here."

Roma recently joined the chase to sign Cerci, who is under contract with the Turin outfit until 2016.

Cairo also confirmed his club intends to keep Matteo Darmian.

Barcelona have reportedly set their eyes on the 24-year-old full-back after his strong performances for Italy at the World Cup.

Darmian made his Italy debut in May and started in all three games for the Azzurri in Brazil.

"He (Darmian) is not for sale," Cairo said. "Since a few years ago, there is more will for players to wear the Granata (Torino) jersey.

"The players have understood that Torino is a club were you can grow."

Darmian is under contract with Toro until June 2017.

Torino will compete in next season's Europa League.

Transfer News: Alexander Buttner leaves Manchester United for Dinamo Moscow

Alexander Buttner: Struggled to settle at Old Trafford

Alexander Buttner: Struggled to settle at Old Trafford

Manchester United have sold defender Alexander Buttner to Dinamo Moscow for a fee that could rise to £5.6million.

The 25-year-old Dutchman was restricted to 15 appearances for United last season with compatriot Patrice Evra producing a string of impressive performances at left back.

With Buttner expressing his concern last month over his United future because of new manager Louis Van Gaal, along with the recent arrival of Luke Shaw, it was clear he was surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

A statement on United's website read: "Manchester United has finalised the sale of Alex Buttner to Dynamo Moscow for an undisclosed fee.

"Everybody at Old Trafford would like to thank Alex for his service and wish him well for his new career in Russia."

Buttner becomes the third defender to leave United this summer after Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

It is understood the Russian club have paid £4.4million up front for the player, with the fee set to climb to £5.6million depending on appearances

United paid just under £4million for Buttner when they signed him from Vitesse Arnhem in August 2012. He scored on his debut against Wigan and also found the net in Sir Alex Ferguson's final game in charge, but he was never able to dislodge Evra as first-choice left-back.

Transfer news: Colombia striker Jackson Martinez to decide future after World Cup

Jackson Martinez (middle): Will not consider his future until after the World Cup

Jackson Martinez (middle): Will not consider his future until after the World Cup

FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez says he will only consider his future once Colombia’s World Cup campaign is over, with a host of clubs reported to be keen on securing his signature.

The 27-year-old, who netted twice in Colombia’s 4-1 demolition of Japan, has been linked with moves to Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid, among other European sides, this summer.

Martinez only joined Porto from Mexican outfit Chiapas in 2012, but he has taken Portuguese football by storm, netting 46 goals in 60 league appearances during his first two seasons.

Martinez has another two years remaining on his current deal in Portugal, but despite the speculation surrounding his future, he insists his only concern at this moment in time is the World Cup.

"It is not about me, we are just focused and together as a team," said Martinez.

"I will not think about my future until after the World Cup. I am happy with my work so far, but we are together as a team and that is very important for us."

After topping Group C with maximum points, Colombia meet Uruguay in the last-16 at the Maracana Stadium, and Martinez is confident that Jose Pekerman’s side can triumph.

"I believe Colombia is superior to Uruguay, but we need to show that on the pitch. It will be a big rivalry and now they will increase their battle to beat us," he said.

"Uruguay is a very difficult opponent and we will have to concentrate and be focused if we are to reach the quarter-finals.

"We know Uruguay’s strengths and they know about us, so there will be little surprise of advantage for either team."

Martinez also spoke of how fellow South American sides are thriving at this summer’s tournament, with Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay and Costa Rica all reaching the knock-out stages.

He said: "There is no doubt that this World Cup is about the South American teams. It has a South American flavour.

"I am convinced that it will be a South American champion. The conditions, the atmosphere and everything suits us. This is a very open tournament – exciting – there are goals and great moments.

"We believe we can progress," the striker added.

Premier League: Giggs says Man United caretaker-manager role came too soon

http://ift.tt/1h8Rvug

Ryan Giggs (r): Had four-game spell in charge

Ryan Giggs (r): Had four-game spell in charge

Ryan Giggs has admitted he was not ready for the Manchester United job when he took over as caretaker-manager at Old Trafford last season.

Giggs took over at United after David Moyes was sacked with four matches of the season left, winning two, drawing one and losing one.

The Welshman is now completing his Pro Licence coaching badge as he prepares for life as Louis van Gaal's assistant, but knows he has much to learn if he is take the United job on a permanent basis in the future.

"When I took the job there were a lot of things that I was quite happy with, but there and was the odd thing where I thought 'I'm not quite ready for this'. Well it wasn't that I wasn't ready for it, but I could do with a little bit more experience," Giggs told the FA's official website.

"I have gained that experience from Sir Alex (Ferguson) but last year I was still playing so I wasn't really focused on the coaching and the other side of things.

"This year I can put everything into it and learn from someone who has managed at the top in so many other countries. It has been a good thing that I have been with Sir Alex for so long but also I am now getting to see how other people work as well. I got a taste of David Moyes and now Louis Van Gaal this year."

Giggs has now hung up his boots after an illustrious career, but was still playing at the time of his elevation last season - an adjustment he struggled to deal with.

"Yeah, I mean there was just so much to do," he said. "Before training you are in at half seven and by the time half ten had come you were knackered.

"Because I was still a player I just wanted to make the players aware that I was the club manager and get that distance away from them initially to say, 'I am not joining in training, I am looking to see what you are doing'. You can't really do that if you are getting involved.

"Initially that was my feeling - not get involved with training and see how they were all performing. The majority of the lads were all fit so I had plenty to choose from so I wanted to get a good look. If you are involved and in the middle of it you don't quite get the same look."

Luke Shaw: Southampton left-back has been bought by Manchester United

Manchester United have signed Southampton left-back Luke Shaw for a fee in excess of £30million.

The 18-year-old has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford having secured the move after returning from World Cup duty with England on Wednesday.

United had an initial bid of £27m for Shaw turned down at the end of last season but have now sealed the deal.

The teenager, who made a single appearance in the World Cup, joins Ander Herrera in moving to Manchester; the midfielder is moving on a four-year contract from Athletic Bilbao and for a fee of £28m.

Veteran Patrice Evra signed a one-year contract extension in May but United had been keen to secure a long-term replacement for the Frenchman, especially after Alex Buttner agreed to join Dinamo Moscow earlier this week.

Shaw, who becomes the world’s most expensive teenager as a result of the transfer, made his Southampton debut as a 16-year-old in January 2012.

He has played 60 Premier League games for Saints and earned his first England call-up for the friendly against Denmark in March.

Roy Hodgson selected Shaw ahead of Ashley Cole for England’s World Cup squad, but he only made one appearance - in the final game against Costa Rica.

David Moyes: Former Manchester United manager has spoken to Galatasaray

David Moyes: Former Manchester United manager has spoken to Galatasaray

Former Manchester United boss David Moyes has had "an exchange of ideas" with officials at Galatasaray regarding their vacant managerial position.

The Turkish club have confirmed that they have spoken to Moyes - but the former Manchester United manager is not their top managerial target.

Galatasaray have confirmed the Scot has been in Istanbul to meet with president Unal Aysal, but have stated that Joachim Low and Jurgen Klinsmann are their top targets.

Galatasaray parted company with Italian coach Roberto Mancini a fortnight ago after finished second in the Turkish Super Lig.

Mancini had been in charge since October 2013 and won the Turkish Cup last season.

Moyes is available after being sacked by Manchester United in April after just 10 months in charge at Old Trafford.

The Scotsman has been linked with several jobs since leaving United and has spoken of his interest in managing abroad.
